Donut Peaches

August 7th, 2007 by megc

What a treat to have donut peaches in the fruit share today.  Here’s a bit of info on donut peaches, via hormel.com (of all places!)

Donut Peach

A variety of white Peach that originated in Asia. The name was derived from the appearance, which looks like a cake donut. The Donut Peach is approximately 1 to 2 inches in height and 2 to 3 inches in diameter. The outer skin has a pale yellow and red color that covers a white inner flesh that is tender, juicy, and sweet tasting, similar to a nectarine. This Peach has a low acid to sugar ratio, so it is sweeter than the orange flesh variety. It is an excellent addition to salads, desserts, crepes, and other dishes requiring fruit.  Store in a refrigerator for no more than 3 to 5 days.

I don’t know why, but Hormel has a remarkably good cooking reference section on their web site: http://www.hormel.com/templates/knowledge/knowledge.asp?catitemid=109&id=147

Browse through it a bit… Great photographs of techniques like taking apart a chicken, too…

Completely bizarre from the makers of Hormel Chili!

I LOVE these peaches. I was really amazed at how good they were. I had to stop myself from eating them all so I could enjoy them for longer. I hope that we keep getting these babies for a while yet!

Wow, just tried a donut peach - what great flavor and texture! Different from other peaches and really loved them. I have like 6 of them so I’m going to enjoy them over the weekend.
