Notes From Green Thumb Farm, 1 October 2007

October 1st, 2007 by megc

farmer-bill.jpgFall is upon us; the weather will be changing soon as the days will get shorter. We still have a field of tomatoes getting ready to ripen, and with enough warm days we’ll have tomatoes until Halloween. We will start picking some green tomatoes next week, so get out your favorite fried green tomato recipes!

We’re starting to pick our fall greens - most of the small sized leaves can be used in salad, and larger sized leaves can be steamed or stir-fried with garlic and olive oil. Try slicing some carrot in for added sweetness.

Our fall pumpkin picking farm tour is set for Saturday, October 13. Please call for reservations and more info at 631-726-1900 between 9am and 5pm daily. Since space is limited on the tractor-pulled trailer, reservations are required.

Organically yours,

Farmer Bill
