About Green Thumb Farm
The Green Thumb Farm, located in Water Mill, Long Island, consists of 90 acres and has been farmed by the Halsey family since the 1640s. In 1978 Bill and Larry Halsey started growing environmentally friendly organic vegetables on three acres.
Today, all 90 acres are certified organic. In spite of the challenges and expenses involved, Green Thumb Farm has made the commitment to be totally organic. The Halseys continue to farm because they value raising their children in a rural environment, producing on land that has been in the family for generations, and preserving and improving the land for future generations.

About Hellgate CSA
The Hellgate CSA is a revision of the 2005 Ravenswood CSA. We’ve moved the distribution site to be more accessible to the community of Astoria and have expanded share options. A team of volunteers stepped in to fill the shoes of Cara, the Americorp Volunteer who worked closely with Just Food to establish the CSA in the 2005 season. This core group works hard to bring to you the Hellgate CSA, communicating closely with Farmer Bill, nailing down the logistics, and creating a dialogue within the community to promote membership and membership interaction with the CSA. Each person works voluntarily because of their strong belief in local, organic, and sustainable food.
Our CSA couldn’t exist without the commitment of its members who are contributing individually by purchasing a produce share and volunteering their time to make a distribution happen on a weekly basis. Whether you are an existing CSA member or considering joining the Hellgate CSA, we encourage you to talk to one another and share the enthusiasm and enjoyment of the Green Thumb Farm’s weekly bounty, as well as the other produce and meat/dairy the CSA helps distribute!
Volunteer! Are you interested in donating your time to the Hellgate CSA, but are not sure how? Send us an e-mail and we’ll let you know what is needed.
