Rutabaga Fries

Rutabaga Fries
1 rutabaga
toasted sesame oil
extra virgin olive oil
1/4 tsp Chinese 5 spice powder
Preheat oven to 400f.

Winter Salad with Black Radish, Apple, and Escarole
1-2 black radishes, sliced very thinly into half-rounds
1 large (or 2 small) apple[s], cut into small chunks
1 large head of escarole, washed and broken into bite-sized pieces

Butternut squash and apples are a classic combination, and this soup combines them perfectly.

Fried Green Tomatoes

4 to 6 green tomatoes, sliced 1/4-inch thick
salt and pepper
flour for dusting
2 eggs, beaten
cornmeal or bread crumbs
bacon grease or vegetable oil

Ginger and Garlic Pak Choi
1 small pak choi
½ inch fresh ginger root
2 cloves garlic
1 tablespoon sesame oil (or olive oil)
Separate the pak choi leaves and cut off the chunky stalks. Slice the stalks finely. Roughly chop the leaves.
Peel and grate the ginger. Peel and crush the garlic.
